There are real-life cases. There may also be differences in punctuations and character sets. Besides the VLC core will anyway apply gettext to these strings, so they are translatable in any case...

Removed the 'Advanced' function from the complete prefs because we want them to be complete in any case thanks to SPrefs Additionally, removed the temporary Simple Prefences menu item.

On Windows, we use the Win32 for Unicode conversion. On OSX, we don't even need to convert (and probably not on recent Linux distros either, but they all have iconv anyway :) )
